Overprotective parents insisting that their offspring have a constitutional (if not divine) right to enjoy every aspect of school life can lead to some of the most frivolous lawsuits.
One involved a child and would-be trumpet player who was dismissed from the band. The parents insisted it was unfair, unconstitutional even; that the dismissal was handed down without any due process. As it turns out, the child had the opportunity to be heard, and he was heard – by the bandmaster; and by the principal; and by the Superintendent of School; and by the School Board itself. Due process indeed!
